21a. Belvedere Bowls Club, Off Belvedere Road, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire. Situated within the car park of the Bowls Club are three Thorn Gamma 3 post-top lanterns fitted to 8 m octagonal aluminium columns, also supplied by Thorn. Whilst the Gamma 3 lantern was designed for running a single 250 / 400 Watt MBF or SON lamp, the presence of newer floodlights at a much lower mounting height suggests that the main lanterns are no longer in operation - perhaps, they were found to produce too much intrusive light in the windows of adjacent properties, with the floodlights having a more focused beam. Nevertheless, the lanterns are in good condition, and appear to be fully intact.

The unpainted aluminium column and lantern gleamed in the early-morning September sun.

Two of the clips that secure the removable canopy to the fixed bowl can be seen below.

Both of these columns have their bases surrounded by foliage growth.

The interior of this lantern appears to be in cleaner condition than it is on the first example.

The third column is situated within the Bowls Club itself, but is an identical setup to those seen above.

The lanterns are not fitted with photocells; the object that is visible on the canopy is dirt.
