4o. Alice Street, Derby City Centre. Attached to a building at the end of this terraced street is a Benjamin 'Duoflux' shovel-shaped floodlighting unit, complete with a very large tungsten filament (GLS) lamp. Prior to the introduction of either halogen or discharge floodlights, these units were very common for lighting external areas of industrial premises throughout Britain but fell out of favour as the newer lighting technologies gained popularity. This floodlight is probably no longer in regular use, owing to the presence of much newer bulkhead lights installed lower down the wall, although it perhaps still could be operated if required.

I rather like the juxtaposition of the 'fake' heritage street lighting installation on the left, and the 'true' heritage fitting in the shovel floodlight!

The fitting is attached to a very rusty wall bracket that appears to have been fabricated using some angle iron and a length of tube.

Increasing the camera's brightness enabled the large filament lamp to be seen within the floodlight, as well as some rust patches on the enamel reflector.
