5e. Leylands Estate, Darley Abbey At the entrance to this 1950s' housing estate is a very unusual column and top-entry lantern integrated into a bench. I assume that the installation dates from this era as well. Unfortunately, the lantern has been modified since it was first installed - a bowl from a post-top lantern has been placed inside it, and a 35 W SOX lamp has been fitted. As far as I know, the lantern no longer works - in fact, it's a mystery how it ever worked at all as the column appears to be a solid block of wood and yet no cables can be seen fixed to it.
