15a. Thorn Beta 5. Spotted on Monday, 28th August 2017 on Pendleside Way in Littleover.

For some reason, this particular installation has been targeted by vandals twice in as many months. On the first occasion, in July 2017, the lamp was smashed and the bowl damaged. A new lamp was fitted shortly afterwards; however, upon receiving received a tip-off that the lantern had been damaged again, I paid a visit. This time, virtually nothing remained of either the bowl or lamp - whatever had broken them had done so with some force.

Pictures:

The outer bulb of the lamp is completely missing, whilst a small part of the arc tube remains. Ironically, the shallow type of Beta 5 bowl was marketed as the 'anti-vandal' option...I don't think that this is true, given how little of the bowl is left attached!

I am surprised that the lower limb of the arc tube survived better than the upper limb did.
