7. GEC Z9536

Spotted in about 2000 - however, I only had a good look on the 3rd February 2005. The lantern is a privately owned one in the car park of All Saints Church, Etwall Rd, Mickleover.

What I think happened: The lantern has been in its present state for years - I can't remember when it last worked. I'm assuming that it was vandalised, and then was never repaired.

(The curved object in the bottom right of the picture is a bracket supporting a gear-in-head Philips MA 50 on Etwall Road itself. The MA 50 was subsequently removed in 2010, as a result of Derby's Street Lighting PFI.)

Another Z9536 exists nearby; this is in much better condition, though it too is long-abandoned. Both lights may date from when the adjacent Mickleover Manor served as the Woodlands Hospital, as the nearby Pastures Hospital used similar lighting; indeed, there used to be an abandoned Concrete Utilities' Byway column supporting a Z9539 (the top-entry, gear-in-head version of the Z9536) near the start of the access road leading to the Manor (latterly, converted to apartments with additional housing built in its grounds) off Ladybank Road, but this was removed in the late 2000s - Pastures employing identical columns and lanterns prior to its closure and redevelopment.

The lantern's bowl isn't fitted quite correctly towards the back; hence, the presence of detritus within the bowl. Remarkably, the lamp appears to be intact in this lantern.
