Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

Broadway Service Road, Darley Abbey

The outgoing lighting on this road would probably be described as "ineffective" at best - only two columns were installed on the service road, and one of these had its lantern largely positioned within trees! The lighting on Broadway itself would have provided a small amount of light, although again, the trees would have reduced the amount of useful light produced. The relighting scheme along this road saw two new columns installed on the section that had previously not had its own street lighting.

The two columns consisted of unsleeved Stanton 7 concretes; both supported top-entry Thorn Beta 5 35 Watt SOX lanterns.

The first Beta 5 had been fitted with a Royce Thompson SC1000 photocell; the "standard" photocell for Derby following the commencement of the PFI.

The second column marked the location of the footpath leading to West Bank Close. Notice that the concrete is crumbling above the (long disused) ladder bars. One of the new columns on the previously unlit stretch of road can be seen in the background.

The columns along the service road had been removed by Sunday, 8th August.
