Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

Duffield Road, Allestree (Adjacent Allestree Park)

Most of Duffield Road had received replacement lighting by 2012; the only part by then that still required upgrading was the stretch between Evans Avenue and the main entrance to the park. This section finally received new lighting towards the end of January, with the following photographs being taken on the 21st of that month; a Saturday.

The redundant lighting along this road came in the form of the following 135 Watt SOX lanterns: Philips MA 50 (integrally and remotely geared) and Thorn Alpha 4 (remotely geared).

The columns are set back a considerable distance from the carriageway edge, in order to minimise the likelihood of their being struck by a vehicle.

One of the columns earmarked for removal was considerably newer than the rest were; its predecessor had been involved in a collision with a vehicle a few years previously.

After the entrance to the park, we leave the Derby City boundary and enter the Borough of Amber Valley, where the lighting is maintained by another authority and was therefore not planned for removal as part of this scheme.
