The size of this area meant that only a single column sufficed in providing adequate illumination in the hours of darkness. A Thorn Gamma 6, dating from the 1980s, was fitted to the outgoing column.

The replacement Iridium lantern comprised a narrow reflector around the CosmoWhite lamp.
