Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

Fenton Road, Mickleover

Columns being removed on this road were:

Seq. No. Lamp Number Location Lamp Type Watt Isolation Point
1 27663 OS NO 3 SXPL3 35
2 27664 OS NO 15 SXPL3 35
3 27665 OS NOS 24/26 SXPL3 35
4 27666 O/S NO 38 SXPL3 35
5 27667 O/S NO 33 SXPL3 35
6 27668 OS NO 47 SXPL3 35

I had thought that a sleeved Stanton 7 column marked the start of Fenton Road at the junction of Vicarage Road. I later discovered that this column was actually on Vicarage Road; consequently, it was not replaced until the rest of Vicarage Road was relit, almost a year later, in February 2011. (The lantern was rescued, and is now in my collection). Note the side-entry-to-top-entry conversion bracket necessitated by the use of a top-entry Thorn Beta 5 lantern.

A Beta 5 on a CU hockey stick column (installed in 2004/5) was also to be replaced. Notice the pile of Lighting Derby safety barriers behind the hockey stick column.

Another quirky installation is this swan-necked column supporting a top-entry Siemens SRL 35 (or GEC Z9581/3):
