The following photographs were taken on Saturday, 11th June 2011.
By the time that these pictures were taken, only two of the outgoing columns still survived. Both supported GEC Z9538 55 Watt SOX lanterns. Owing to the road being situated within the Strutt's Park Conservation Area, the replacement lighting is a little different to the normal equipment specified on the PFI.
The replacement columns along here are Metcraft 'Nelson' designs, with an 89 mm diameter shaft and cast frog. The lanterns are also Metcraft products - the 'Victoria' design. |
The new lanterns are of a stainless steel construction, and are polyester powder coated in black.
Royce Thompson Microstar 2000 miniature photocells are installed in the lantern canopies, and activate the lamp at 35 Lux, and deactivate the lamp at 18 Lux. And there you were thinking that lamplighters were still employed!
By comparison, the outgoing Z9538s featured rather weathered GRP canopies, and polycarbonate refractor bowls.
The lanterns run either 45 Watt or 60 Watt Cosmo-White lamps.
Internally, the lanterns are sealed to IP66, and incorporate a Metcraft MPO reflector with a built-in five degree tilt.
The column bases incorporate a pattern that is similar, but not quite as ornate, to columns of the past.
A fair amount of additional cable was required in order to bring this final installation to life.
