Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract
Rutherford Rise, Oakwood
The equipment being removed consisted of the following items in 1997:
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
1 | 99916 | OS NO 3 | SXPL2 | 35 | |
2 | 99917 | OS NO 7 | SXPL2 | 35 | |
3 | 99918 | ADJ NO 11 | SXPL2 | 35 |
The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 24th October 2010; the three outgoing columns installed on this short cul-de-sac all supported early 1980s' Thorn Beta 5 lanterns.
A small pool of green slime had gathered in the lowest part of this Beta 5's bowl.
By comparison, the Iridium is rated to IP66; in theory, this means that even strong jets of water should be unable to enter the lantern.
The second Beta 5 was in an altogether better condition. Just visible here is the internal identification label - this shows that the lantern is actually a Thorn EMI product, rather than just Thorn.
The Philips logo is visible in the centre of the Iridium's chassis.
