Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

Scropton Walk, Shelton Lock

The equipment being removed consisted of the following items in 1997:

Seq. No. Lamp Number Location Lamp Type Watt Isolation Point
1 34423 ADJ 301 SINFIN AVE SXPL1 35
2 34424 REAR OF 6/8 SXPL1 35
3 34425 SIDE OF NO 10 SXPL1 35 Y
4 34426 FP O/S NO 5 SXPL1 35
5 34427 SIDE OF NO 7 SXPL1 35

The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 19th December 2010.

The first column supported a GEC Z5698U post-top lantern. A mystery component was visible within the lantern; this is possibly an ignitor. If this is what the device is, the ignition system built into the Z5698U's Z1616P ballast has failed, and the external ignitor has been installed instead.

The second column supported a Thorn Gamma Basique - never a particularly common lantern in Derby. The extended 'plant pot' canopy on this lantern signifies that the lantern is fitted with a 35 Watt SOX lamp; the taller canopy being required due to the length of the lamp.

Nearby, the replacement column awaited a power supply.
