Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract

Timsbury Court, Oakwood

The equipment being removed consisted of the following items in 1997:

Seq. No. Lamp Number Location Lamp Type Watt Isolation Point
1 99897 OS NO 1 SXPL2 35
2 99898 OS NO 5 SXPL2 35
3 99899 OS NO 14 SXPL2 35

The following photographs were taken on Thursday, 28th October 2010. By the time that the pictures were taken, the outgoing lanterns had been removed, although their columns remained.

The lanterns were Thorn Beta 5s, and dated from the early 1980s.

The first Iridium was already fitted with an anti-glare shield to the rear of the bowl; given the close proximity of the installation to a bedroom window of the adjacent property, this is perhaps not surprising.

The second new column was positioned further along the road than the equivalent outgoing column was.

This lantern remained glare shield free, at least when these photographs were taken.

The Beta 5 that had been fitted to the third column was missing its bowl in 2008. It is not known whether the bowl was ever replaced.

The new column in this area was installed to one side of the turning circle. (As a side, the original colour of the roof tiles of the garage in the background can be seen - for many years, the 'clean' tiles had been covered by a climbing plant, which effectively reduced the weathering process to the tiles. With the plant now gone, the tiles will gradually darken and match those fitted to the rest of the roof.)
