Prior to the new lighting being installed, the lighting along this road consisted of 10 m tubular steel columns and various 135 Watt SOX lanterns, mainly GEC Z9554Ms. The 10 m mounting height was retained when the new lighting was installed. The new lanterns are the 254 size of the Iridium and (presumably as a trial due to the lighting depot being located on nearby Gosforth Road) about half a dozen of these have been fitted with Telensa radio monitoring nodes in place of the usual SC1000 photocells.

The lanterns had only been installed for a short time when the photographs were taken but the canopies had already been defaced by perching birds!
