Chalmit Davis GR 70
Lantern acquired in July 2007.
Thanks to Davy Warren for this lantern which came from somewhere in the Plymouth area and is believed to have been replaced with an Urbis ZX1. The GR 70 was a popular lantern in that area throughout the early-mid 1990s but again, it is a lantern which has never (to my knowledge) been used in the Derby area.
The bowl is held in place by five large stainless steel clips - used to main an internal seal of IP65.
The GRP canopy needs cleaning as well as painting to prevent any more fibres from escaping.
There is not much in the way of an optical system in this lantern - two curved mirror reflectors are positioned on either side of the lamp, and a white reflector is positioned above to prevent light escaping through the canopy.
The gear is hidden behind the blacked-out section of the bowl. The bowl clips have successfully kept dirt and moisture out of the lantern - making the internals still look like new.
