Local WRTL 2015s
A number of 2015s are installed on the footpaths that are set away from the main roads in Derby's Pride Park area.
This 2015 would have been installed very early on in the Pride Park development (1996/7) - this is evidenced by its black canopy and base casting. As we shall see, subsequent installs saw the lanterns specified with these components painted red, in order to match their column.
The lantern's polycarbonate bowl has discoloured slightly in its years of operation.
This 2015 is just such a 'later' installation, as evidenced by the red paintwork. It is attached to a 6 m base-hinged Fabrikat column. A couple of Circa lanterns (also made by WRTL) are visible in the background.
Well, I say 'red'...the colour has faded to something more akin to mauve over the time that the lantern has been in use. The same had happened to many of the Pride Park installations by the late 2000s, with the result that an extensive repainting programme commenced, which returned the installations to their original red and cream (where applicable) colour scheme - these being the livery colours of the former Midland Railway Company; the Pride Park site having formerly been part of the Locomotive Works. The column has been repainted, however.
The lantern fitted to this column appeared to be a little newer.
Not only is the paintwork in better condition, but the bowl is not (yet) discoloured.
A damaged 2015 was spotted ten years earlier than its name would suggest, in 2005. Whatever had caused the damage had flipped the gear tray over in the process.
The damaged lantern was replaced with a 'wide' 2015 (which, I think, is the 2016) - notice the return to black canopies and base castings.
The bowl patterning and internal structure of the lantern appear to be the same with these lanterns.
