Local Urbis Opalos

The Opalo is another lantern that has made very little impact on Derbyshire's street lighting scene - on public roads, it is believed to exist in the massive quantity of one throughout the entire County! The only known example that does exist was perhaps installed as a trial, in order to assess its performance, ease of installation and maintenance, etc.

Here is the installation in question - it is situated on a small roundabout at the end of an industrial estate in Chesterfield, which is (coincidentally) also the location for the County Council's main Street Lighting depot.

A 70 Watt SON-T lamp can be seen within the lantern, as can some dirt within the bowl!
