Local Philips FGS 105s
The FGS 105 was very rare here; as far as I know, examples could only be seen in the Derwent Street/Nottingham Rd underpass, and complemented the ceiling-mounted fluorescent units. As part of Derby's Street Lighting PFI, all of this existing lighting was removed and Philips floodlights running 45 Watt CPO-TW lamps were attached to the walls instead.
The lanterns ran constantly, as little natural light could enter the underpass due to its construction and length. The maintenance number 125489 seen attached to the lantern's wall box exists on the old inventory records, which were not updated after 1997 for Derby - this, and three more FGS 105s, are listed:
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
39 | 125486 | 1 FM DERWENT ST - ON WALL | FL | 55
40 | 125487 | 2 FM DERWENT ST - ON WALL | FL | 55
41 | 125488 | 3 FM DERWENT ST - ON WALL | FL | 55
42 | 125489 | 4 FM DERWENT ST - ON WALL | FL | 55 |
The sequencing for these begins at 39, as 1 - 3 were feeder pillars, and 4 - 38 were 65 Watt fluorescent fittings installed within the ceiling of the underpass. I am fairly certain that these had been decommissioned long before the FGS 105s were replaced.
