All of the outgoing road lanterns along here would have replaced Thorn Beta 7s running 80 Watt MBF in the mid-1990s. The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 28th March 2010. The lamp fitted in this outgoing Thorn Beta 5 had a partially-blackened outer bulb. Owing to the column's imminent replacement, replacing the lamp at this stage would obviously have been a waste of time, resources and money. The year 1999 saw several maintenance visits to this installation, however, with the first being on the 28th July, when the ignitor and photocell were replaced, followed by the 10th August (lamp change), followed by a return visit on the 26th of that month, which saw the Beta 5 fitted, along with a new lamp and photocell. A further lamp and photocell were, apparently, required on the 10th November - the amount of visits within only a short amount of time suggests to me that there could have been an underlying issue with the electricity supply.

The second column received its Beta 5, along with a new lamp and photocell, on the 24th September 2002. New lamps were also recorded on the 25th October 2002, and on the 24th January 2006. The third column (not pictured, but just out of shot to the right of this image), received a new photocell on the 7th May 1996, a new lamp on the 2nd June 1999, and a new lantern / photocell almost a fortnight later, on the 14th June. A further order, raised on the 28th January 2004, requested that the column be re-numbered the next time that maintenance crews were in the area.

This Beta 5 is on a more modern mid-hinged column on a footpath, and isn't included in the above inventory list for this road. Previously, a column supporting a Thorn Gamma 5 would have existed here.
