Local Holophane CityMaxes

The only known (by me) example of a CityMax within Derbyshire is at the end of the Park Avenue industrial estate in Foston, where a column supporting one of these post-top LED lanterns was installed in the centre of a roundabout as a replacement for several 10 m columns supporting Philips SGS 203s.

The CityMax Large is attached to a 10 m base-hinged Abacus column; this allows the lantern to be maintained without requiring any sort of access platform - the width of the roundabout would make doing this difficult.

As the column's own spigot reduces to 89 mm, a further reducer is needed, owing to the lantern being designed for mounting to a 76 mm spigot instead.

The lantern comprises two semicircles that are linked by a central section.

Although this example features four LEDs in the centre of each semicircle, the blank spaces would allow for additional LED modules to be installed where required. For additional brightness, the inner circular section is also capable of accommodating LEDs. As it is, the eight LEDs have a power output of 295 Watts, which equates to a brightness of 43.4 kilolumens. An 'SY' (symmetrical) optic setting is employed.

The panel on top of the lantern allows access to the internal wiring.
