Local TRT Oakens
TRT's Oaken lantern was launched to the market in 2024, with several examples being installed on a footpath through Derby's Oakwood Park, off Springwood Drive as a trial - the choice of location possibly not being coincidental. A feature of the Oaken lantern is the material used for the construction of its main body - as its name might suggest, this is oak wood - the first time that a functioning street lighting lantern has been produced in such a material.
The lanterns were mounted post-top to existing columns on the footpath.
The lantern is roughly wedge-shaped, with the only parts that aren't wooden being the spigot entry and the underside; these are formed from recycled aluminium.
An identification label is attached to the rear of the spigot entry. Notice the missing grub screw on here too.
Twelve LEDs (with a 3000 K colour temperature) make up the array.
Previously, OrangeTEK AriaLEDs were installed along here.
The wooden bodywork is designed to weather naturally over the course of the lantern's life, including limited warping, without compromising operation.
The lanterns use one-part NEMA photocells for their switching, with Westire AcRo cells fitted.
Although the majority of lanterns are attached to 6 m columns, one is attached to an 8 m Abacus base-hinged example instead.
The angular shape of the lantern body is intended to maximise the ability of water to run off.
The other side of the label carries the Oaken name, along with a PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) logo.
Within the lantern is a recycled polycarbonate enclosure protecting the internal wiring and driver.
A warning label, in four languages, is placed at the front of the aluminium underside.
