Coughtrie PW.15 (Older Version)

Bulkhead acquired in October 2024.

This older PW.15 came into my possession following a house clearance, with my reputation for acquiring old lights leading the question to be asked as to whether I wanted it or not - naturally, with the alternative being that it would be weighed in for scrap, I couldn't really decline the offer!

The PW is attached to a small swan neck bracket that has a section of pipe still attached. Unlike street lighting swan necks, which tend to use a pipe size of 3/4" BSP, this is thinner, and is probably 20 mm steel conduit that has been formed into the swan neck shape instead.

The spigot cap screws onto the support pipe, rather than being bolted into place.

Unlike the later version, which uses a (slightly deeper) plastic bowl, a glass bowl is employed here.

The bowl locates into an aluminium support ring. Typically, two of the three fixing screws for this are jammed, preventing any access into the fitting for the time being. The glass bulb may have detached from the rest of the lamp, as the sound of something rattling about within the fitting is heard whenever the assembly is moved.

An inspection elbow above the fitting is intended to assist in pulling cables through. Unfortunately, these screws are also seized.
