106A. Birkin Lane, Grassmoor Located adjacent Grassmoor Country Park is a 10 ft (3 m) cast iron column with a swan neck bracket and top-entry early Thorn Beta 5 lantern, which was designed to operate 40 Watt SOX and 60 Watt SOI/H lamps, but in later years, would have run 35 Watt SOX lamps only, owing to the obsolescence of the earlier lamp types. The installation itself became obsolete in 2011 when new lighting was installed as part of a nearby housing development, but was not removed, and may even have remained in operational condition until 2019, when its bowl and lamp, and the swan neck bracket's inspection door, was removed.

One reason that the column could have been granted a reprieve is that it is situated within an established hedge.

A Sirebeck S400 two-part photocell detector is positioned on the top of the lantern's canopy.

The gear tray / reflector has rusted from the bowl being missing, and the lantern being out of action for an extended amount of time. The screw that would have held it in place has been lost over time, requiring it to be cable-tied in place. The hinge pin that would have supported the bowl is also long-gone, with a twist of wire serving as the means of securing the bowl in later years. This also suggests that the original bowl, which fitted into a support ring, was replaced at some point during the lantern's lifetime.

With the swan neck door being missing, the base part of the two-part photocell is visible, revealing that the relay is also removed. A Lucy cut-out beneath the base is obscured by the foliage.
