134AG. Brockley Grove, Brentwood, Essex Situated a short distance away from the junction with Woodway on this private estate, is a 15 ft (5 m) Revo 'Angelo' concrete column with a B14012 top-entry swan neck bracket supporting a British Thomson-Houston (BTH) Rural Open lantern. With the BTH name disappearing at the end of 1959, in favour of the consolidated Advanced Electrical Industries (AEI) brand, this installation was in excess of 60 years old when pictured in August 2023, and its retention is surprising, as despite the estate roads being private, all other street lighting seen comprised cast iron columns painted green, and fitted with a modern teardrop lantern.
The column is to be found alongside the entrance to one of the estate houses.
The bracket is spalling quite heavily at both its connection to the column, as well as above the lantern.
Today, the lantern runs a Philips SL-type compact fluorescent lamp, but would have run a simple incandescent tungsten lamp (GLS) originally. A Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell detector controls the lantern's switching.
