140DA. Off Cross Street, New Mills, High Peak Situated outside New Mills Town Hall are three older CU Phosco lanterns - two wall-mounted P235s, designed for 50 - 120 Watt SON (high pressure sodium), or 50 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour), lamps, and a decorative P350 post-top. All are likely to date from the 1980s, and may all still work.

The two P235s are attached to the front of the Town Hall, facing towards the small car parking area alongside.

These are the version with the lamp control gear housed within the lantern. This example looks to be insecure on its wall bracket. The new-looking Zodion SS4D photocell adds further credence to the possibility that these lanterns remain operational.

By comparison, the SS4D fitted to the other example has a more discoloured cone. This lantern is installed correctly on its bracket, however.

The P350 is fitted to a cast iron column that also supports a couple of LED floodlights for illuminating the building facade after nightfall.

The detector for a miniature photocell is seen emerging from the P350's base casting.
