161A. Off Station Road, Birch Vale, Hayfield, High Peak Installed alongside a small gatehouse for some industrial buildings beyond is a 25 ft (8 m) Stewart & Lloyd tubular steel column supporting a GEC Z9455; the top-entry version of the Z9454, which was designed for running a 140 Watt SO/H / SOI/H, and later, a 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamp. This example is likely to date from the 1960s, but no longer appears to be in regular operation.

The bracket employed has minimal outreach, and the use of the top-entry lantern reduces overall overhang further.

One reason for this setup could be that the column is equipped with ladder bars to allow for maintenance to be undertaken without requiring any mechanical lifting equipment - the lantern would be too far out of reach for someone working up a ladder if any further outreach existed.

Judging by the amount of moss that has formed on the bowl, the lantern is unlikely to have been used for a long time.
