172AB. Off Lowman Way, Hilton Installed within a small pumping station area is a Thorn 'Leader' 5 m aluminium lighting column supporting a CU Phosco P178 post-top lantern. Although Lowman Way is itself, a new road, it follows the path of an access road through the former Hilton Business Park, which itself had been the Ministry of Defence central vehicle depot until the late 1980s, meaning that the pumping station, and therefore, the P178, has been retained, despite the redevelopment happening around it.
I suspect that the P178 would only be lit at times when workers needed to access the pumping station after nightfall. A small container within the compound could serve as the switching room for the electrical equipment, along with this light.
Much of the canopy's matte black paint has worn away, exposing the aluminium beneath.
