174EA. Amington Road, Acocks Green, Hay Mills, Birmingham With thanks to Leo Conway for discovering these Survivors. Attached to a building on this industrial estate are two GEC 'Difractor' Z8128B lanterns, part of the 'Clearmain' range at the time. Historical maps depict the buildings to which the lanterns are attached as being "Engineering Works - Motor Accessories", which makes sense, given Birmingham's close links to the motor industry in the past. Although the buildings have probably gone through many owners, and been used for many purposes since then, the lanterns have been retained, though the likelihood that they still operate seems relatively low.

The two Difractors are spaced quite closely together, with one positioned on a corner of the building; the other, on one of the ridges of the factory building's saw-tooth roof.

The brickwork surrounding the corner bracket looks slightly suspect, although as the installation has its supplied cables encased in steel conduit, this will add additional support points to carry the relatively heavy (thanks to its thick glass refractor bowl) lantern.

The bowl of the second example looks to have trapped some rainwater inside it.
