194J. Washway Lane, St Helen's, Merseyside With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Attached to a 1950s' 15 ft (5 m) Concrete Utilities' Avenue 2D column and Arc 2 side-entry bracket is a GEC Z8243 lantern designed for running two 40 Watt 2 ft (600 mm) fluorescent lamps; hence, its alternate name of "Two-Forty". I would expect that the lantern is no longer in use in the modern era, particularly as a modern tubular steel column exists metres away from it on the public side of a security fence, but with this being such a rare lantern, I am amazed that it is still extant at all, especially with it being in reasonable condition.
The bracket's alignment does not match the positioning of the footway, although I suspect that it may have rotated slightly over time.
The lantern uses the same canopy as is employed on the Z9454/64 range of lanterns, but with a different bowl design.
Both the old and new columns are made by the company that went on to become CU Phosco.
Only on this side of the lantern is a slight amount of bowl damage present.
Notice the protrusions at either end of the bowl that support the two sets of lampholders.
