212A. Saint Mary's Place, Shrewsbury, Shropshire Situated within the grounds of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin is a locally-made cast iron column supporting a swan neck bracket and side-entry version of a lantern that is more commonly seen in a top-entry configuration, and which resembles an ELECO product - possibly a 'Blackpool', as this was the side-entry version of the 'Baldock Mk II' lantern. The installation is (possibly) in operable condition, and may be switched from within the church itself, although as the building has not held regular worship services since 1987 (but remains open for visiting), any operation is likely to be rather sporadic.

Curiously, the swan neck bracket is not angled to face the narrow footpath leading to a rear door in the church, or indeed, the step down to the road; instead, it is 90 degrees away from these features.

The lantern comprises a Holophane 4115 glass tapered refractor bowl (the same type as seen with my Wardle Avon), although as this is an ELECO lantern, it may be given the part code HW-858 instead.

The swan neck bracket looks to be formed from 1" BSP pipe, instead of the more common 3/4" size.

A notable feature of much of the church building is its red sandstone construction.

The side-entry alteration looks rather Heath-Robinson in its construction. A reducer section exists between the bracket and the lantern, in order for the latter (with a narrower diameter spigot) to fit.

What looks to be "Trustee", "Shrewsbury" and another word are cast into the column's base section.
