213B. Onnybrook Drive, Craven Arms, Shropshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Fitted to three Stanton 10F 15 ft (5 m) concrete columns on this estate are ELECO 'Way Post Top' HW-879 lanterns, running 35 Watt SOX low pressure sodium lamps (although, they would have run the earlier 60 Watt SO/H / SOI/H lamp type originally). Judging by Google Street View imagery, the whole estate was lit with this column and lantern combination originally, but now only three remain. Two of these are pictured below.
This column displays the characteristic 'storage heater' appearance at base level, where the heat from the separate lamp control gear has dried out the surrounding concrete, whereas the rest of the shaft has absorbed more moisture, and is duller.
The bowl appears to have suffered damage, which has been patched using insulation tape.
The detector for a Royce Thompson P42E two-part photocell emerges from the lantern's base casting.
The second column is to be found at the end of the left-hand branch of Onnybrook Drive.
When pictured by Google Street View in 2009, this lantern was operating in daylight.
As with sister lantern the HW-898, the canopy hinges open to allow access to the lantern's innards.
