214J. Downsview Drive, Wivelsfield Green, Lewes, East Sussex With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. The majority of the columns on this road are 15 ft (5 m) ELECO 'ELECOSlim 848' concrete columns; all of which are likely to have supported the company's PT-908 post-top lanterns originally, though only two remain now (one is pictured below). These lanterns use a distinctive narrow (1 1/4 inch BSP) spigot, instead of the usual 76 mm (3 inch) spigot, which must have made replacement with other lanterns that did use the 76 mm spigot rather fiddly.
One of the remaining PT-908s is seen with a modern tubular steel column supporting an Urbis Sapphire 1 in the background.
Clearly, the PT-908 was designed to be used with this type of ELECOSlim column, as the base casting's lower diameter matches the profile of the column top.
The ELECO logo is visible on the casting.
Although the majority of the column shaft is hexagonal, in order for a flat door to be used, the base section has a rather asymmetrical appearance.
The next column along now supports a lantern from rival GEC's Z5670 range.
This must have been an early replacement for a faulty (or damaged) PT-908.
