21ABA. Halcyon Way, Shobnall, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of this Survivor. Attached to the front corner of a house on this short cul-de-sac is a wall bracket supporting a CU Phosco P226 lantern, designed for running a 35 - 55 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium lamp). The lantern does not form part of the road's street lighting, and was probably purchased and installed by the house's then-owner to provide additional lighting, as the property is set back slightly from the carriageway, and the nearest column is two houses away. The road appears to be a 1970s' construction, with the original lighting comprising 5 m Stanton 1805 concrete columns supporting aluminium-canopied GEC Z9530 35 Watt SOX lanterns with the later (non-Perspex) bowl design.
The P226 is an unusual choice for an outdoor home security light, but in the era before halogen security lights existed, there wasn't much option when selecting lights that would illuminate a reasonable area at low cost.
A Fisher-Karpark (Zodion) SS4 photocell, contemporary to the lantern's age, would provide the automatic switching, although the lantern may not be in operation any longer.
