21FC. Burton Place Shopping Centre, Worthington Way, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Attached to each of the stairwell and lift accesses to the shopping centre from the rooftop car park is a Thorn Precinct bulkhead fitting. These are likely to date from around 1992, when the shopping centre opened, and given their relative 'newness', probably run 70 Watt SON (high pressure sodium) lamps instead of 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps.
This Precinct is situated on the eastern stairwell.
The paint has worn away from the exposed section of the Precinct's canopy.
Despite being 32 years old when photographed, the bowls have not yellowed heavily - another hint that these may run SON; examples running MBF would be likely to have suffered heavier discolouration.
The Precinct attached to the tower that houses the lifts is installed at a greater mounting height, owing to this tower being higher to accommodate the lift gear. A floodlight installed higher still complements the Precinct, and provides greater overall area lighting to the car park.
As this one doesn't have anything immediately above it to protect it from the weather, the entire canopy here has faded to white.
As the door to the second stairwell is located at the end of the tower, again, the Precinct is able to be installed higher up the wall.
Here, dampness has caused corrosion to form on the Precinct's body, resulting in a section of paint flaking off entirely, and exposing the grey aluminium beneath.
For completeness, the other grey object in the wide shot is seen again in close-up - the pigeon looked decidedly unimpressed with the rain that was falling at this time!
