2AAAA. Off Lawrence Lane, Bargate, Trinity, Boston, Lincolnshire Situated on a narrow footpath (known as Stanbow Lane) that passes around the White Hart Hotel is a 10 ft (3·048 m) Stewarts & Lloyds tubular steel column supporting a swan neck bracket and top-entry Revo Prefect lantern, probably dating from the early 1960s. Although the installation appears to be 'forgotten', perhaps surprisingly, it does appear on the interactive fault reporting map for Lincolnshire County Council's street lighting department, and therefore, may still be in operation, as of May 2025, despite having not been adapted to accommodate an LED lantern.
The column is positioned at a right-angled corner of the footpath, providing illumination in both directions. The 'No Cycling' sign also looks rather elderly, with its black and white striped post.
Although the lane would just be wide enough to accommodate a maintenance vehicle, the column is supplied with ladder bars that bolt around the structure. These will be original to when it was installed.
The bowl appears to be 'Diakon' in its construction, judging by the green tinge that the plastic has developed with age. One of the two clips used in securing the bowl support ring has detached.
The metalwork is painted dark blue, although much of this has worn off from around the base area, revealing earlier paint schemes beneath.
Much of the column shaft is fluted - the start of this decoration is visible below the ladder bars.
The detector for a Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell detector is positioned in the 90 degree elbow that allows the top-entry lantern to fit to the swan neck bracket.
The inspection door is hinged, and in normal circumstances, is secured with two square bolts.
An 'atmospheric' shot concludes this gallery.
