54G. Market Place, Crossgate, Durham, County Durham With thanks to Oliver Davison for informing me of these Survivors. Attached to the historical Town Hall / Market Hall building are two Atlas/Thorn M30 F floodlights, installed one above the other, and directed to illuminate the adjacent spire for St Nicholas Church. These floodlights were designed to run a single 140 - 200 Watt SLI/H (linear low pressure sodium) lamp, which, given the obsolescence of such lamps in the 1980s, suggests that these fittings have not run for a very long time. There may have been additional examples fitted to neighbouring buildings in the past, allowing for illumination of the spire from other angles; however, as the current surrounding buildings are all relatively new-build, any other floodlights would have been lost during the demolition of previous buildings.

The two floodlights are easy to overlook, given their relatively concealed positioning on the corner of the building.

Whilst the upper floodlight is now devoid of any lamps, remarkably, the lower example still retains one. The wiring to the two floodlights is provided in a steel conduit system, though I couldn't see where this led, and there were no nearby enclosures to house the lamp control gear - they may have been removed, of course.
