81BCA. Off Brick Kiln Lane, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Situated within a compound towards the end of the road are several 10m sheet steel columns produced by Stainton, which support GEC Z9564 lanterns, for 180 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps. A neighbouring compound also uses the same columns, which were also topped with Z9564s in the past, suggesting that the two sites used to be one. These columns are now fitted with LED lanterns instead, however.
One of the columns rises up from the low-height trees at the site's border with Brick Kiln Lane.
This particular Z9564 shows signs of water ingress, with a small pool having formed at the back of the bowl.
Further into the compound, three more columns are to be seen.
The photocell fitted to the foreground lantern looks to be a Zodion (Fisher Karpark / Cableform) SS4 type.
A close-up of the two background lanterns reveals that the photocell fitted to the middle example is different.
At the end of the publicly-accessible section of Brick Kiln Lane is this 5 m Stanton 1805 column, supporting a Thorn Beta 5.
A bead of sealing compound is visible at the joint where the bracket and column meet, and this seems to have worked in preventing spalling to occur between the two parts.
The lantern's acrylic bowl is rather cloudy, which is unusual on a Beta 5. I suspect that the bowl may need cleaning, and the translucency is not permanent, in this case.
