93A. Off Intake Road, Carr Vale, Old Bolsover Attached to a building that once served as part of Bolsover Colliery are two British Thomson-Houston (BTH) Urban Enclosed lanterns, dating from the 1950s, and designed for running a 300 - 500 Watt GLS (tungsten filament) lamp (product code ST907), or a 250 - 400 Watt MA/V (medium pressure mercury vapour) lamp (product code SM907). Sadly, one lantern is missing both its bowl and lamp, but the other has retained its bowl, despite probably no longer being in operation. The colliery closed in 1993, with the former railway line serving the colliery becoming Intake Road, and new industrial units being built along it.

The more intact of the two lanterns is pictured first.

A rather functional wall bracket supports the lantern, though structural scrollwork provides a degree of embellishment.

The lantern appears to be secured to the bracket using lengths of Denso tape. Regrettably, a small pellet hole is present in the glass bowl, but the lantern is otherwise in good condition.

Viewing the lantern from the other direction, in order to create a silhouette.

Surprisingly, the bowl appears quite clean from ground level, with only a small amount of dirt having gathered in the lowest part.

An arrow on the underside of the bowl ensures that the lantern is installed the correct way around (or should be).

The other installation is situated around the corner of the building.

An empty porcelain Goliath Edison Screw lampholder remains in place within the lantern.

A part code is cast into the inside of the canopy.
