Off King Street, Cathedral Quarter, Little Chester, City of Derby Attached to a side wall of Derby's historical Saint Helen's House is a short outreach wall bracket supporting a Phosco P111 Georgian-style post-top lantern. Although the P111 remains in production to this day, I believe that this is an earlier example, owing to its once-transparent Perspex bowl having becoming somewhat translucent through ultraviolet degradation. Having seen the lantern in operation, the present light source seems to be a standard LED GLS lamp, and if discharge lamp control gear was never installed, the original lamp type may have been standard GLS (incandescent tungsten filament), being changed later to compact fluorescent to save on electricity costs.

Although the gates to the grounds of Saint Helen's House itself were locked when these pictures were taken, a low nearby wall allowed the lantern to be pictured without issue.

The current supply cable passes through a length of flexible conduit; however, the possible witness mark of an earlier, now abandoned, supply cable is visible in the stonework.

A miniature photocell is attached to the P111's canopy.
