Orchard Place, Barlaston, Tittensor, Stafford With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Positioned by the car park for a small parade of shops are two 5 m Stanton 1805 concrete columns and 'F'-type brackets, with both supporting a GEC Z8896 lantern, for 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps. Although both columns carry maintenance numbers (C1 and C2), they are likely to be maintained by the local Parish Council; hence, their retention when all surrounding street lighting lanterns are now LED.

The column to the eastern side of the car park is seen first. The bracket points the lantern away from the parking area, and to one of the access roads leading to the area instead.

Compression from the bracket during installation has caused the sealing putty employed to form a watertight join between the column and the bracket to ooze out of the gap, prior to its setting hard in the air.

The characteristic yellowing of the polycarbonate bowl, caused by repeated ultraviolet light rays from both the sun and the lamp, is present here.

The second column is positioned almost symmetrically to the first at the other end of the precinct area.

The underside of this bowl is considerably worse for dirt ingress.

Although the bases of the 1805 columns are narrow, there is still ample space available for the MBF ballast, capacitor, ER4N photocell base and relay, and Lucy Zodion cut-out.

A faint 1989 date stamp on the capacitor confirms the likely age of the installation.
