Off Amber Way, Gorsty Hill, Halesowen, Dudley, West Midlands With thanks to Leo Conway for discovering these Survivors. Installed alongside the perimeter fence for a large Cash & Carry complex are (at least) three 8 m tubular steel columns), all of which support Davis / ELECO GR304 / Silver Ray SR304 lanterns, though as all of these have lost their bowls (assuming that these were supplied originally), they now resemble the 305 (cut-off) version instead. As the Amber Way industrial estate appears to have been built in the 1980s on land occupied previously by a brickworks, the lanterns may have been sold as Davis products by then, but could still carry ELECO branding on their castings.
The first two columns are located down a short (but steep) embankment leading away from Amber Way; only one is pictured.
Elliptical lamps are still fitted in the lanterns, and judging by their size, they appear to be 250 Watt; the lantern being able to accommodate up to 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) or SON (high pressure sodium) lamps.
The third column is at the other end of the site. Oddly, all three are installed externally to the perimeter fence.
The bracket arms are rather angular, without any support webbing.
The open nature of the lantern has caused the copper-based alloy employed in the lamp cap to develop noticeable verdigris around the part exposed to the atmosphere.
