Holloway Lane, St George's, Redditch, Worcestershire With thanks to Leo Conway for discovering this Survivor. Attached to the underside of the bridge deck that supports the Alvechurch Highway is a fitting produced by the General Electric Company (GEC) for this exact type of scenario. Although its exact part code is unknown, it is believed to use much of the bodywork and bowl from the Z9555 135 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) cut-off side-entry street lighting lantern, but modified to operate as an under-bridge light, and fitted with the lamp control gear for a 90 Watt lamp - the regular Z9555 having the gear mounted remotely.
The presence of a TRT Aspect LED lantern that is attached to the bridge wall indicates that this fitting is long-abandoned. In fact, the Aspects replaced Philips SGS 203s, and on the opposite wall, Holophane Wallpackette bulkhead fittings are used, suggesting that the GEC fitting has not been lit for a considerably long time.
A length of Mineral Insulated cable can be seen terminating into the back of the fitting, at the position where the side-entry spigot is bolted in the regular version. The white portion of the bowl is unique to the under-bridge versions of these lanterns, and obscures the area occupied by the control gear.
A break in the centre of the bowl reveals that although the fitting is defunct, a SOX lamp remains installed within it.
