154c. Titchfield Street, Whitwell Located at the junction of Mason Street is a 25 ft (8 m) Abacus tubular steel column supporting a Thorn Alpha 1 90 Watt SOX lantern. Yes, a design launched in 1955 remains on Derbyshire's streets 65 years later (these pictures having been taken in May 2020), and whilst this example will be slightly newer than this, few changes were made to the design during its production run, that continued right into the early 1990s. For its age, the installation remains in reasonable condition, with limit rust patches existing on the steel structure.

The lantern's acrylic Opticell unit has become slightly translucent from UV exposure over the years, but otherwise, is a very good, clean example.

A relatively short cranked outreach bracket links the lantern and the column.

Sadly, a Thorn Isaro Pro-S 47 Watt LED lantern replaced this lantern shortly after the pictures were taken.
