Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract
Carlton Drive, Shelton Lock
The equipment being removed consisted of the following single column in 1997:
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
1 | 70820 | O/S NO 9/11 | SXPL1 | 35 |
The following photographs were taken on Saturday, 11th December 2010.
Prior to the commencement of the PFI scheme, only a single column existed on this road. Although this column probably dated from the mid-2000s, it would have served as the direct replacement of an older column, making the road quite gloomy after nightfall. The PFI saw the installation of the three columns. The old column can just be seen on the left, in the distance, in the photograph below.
The column was a 5 m tubular steel Stainton column supporting a shallow-bowled Thorn Beta 5 lantern. The reinstatement in the footway (from when the column was installed) can still be seen.
The Beta 5's bowl clip was damaged; resulting in the bowl being secured with a length of insulation tape.
The new columns were fairly evenly spaced along the road:
