Most of the new lighting had already been replaced by Sunday, 10th October 2010. Only a small amount of the outgoing equipment still remained by this date; this is detailed below:
A Thorn Alpha 1 90 Watt SOX lantern was the first casualty documented in this gallery:
The Alpha 1's Opticell showed signs of ingress, though these were not excessive. A GE SOX lamp is fitted here; this would have been produced at the (now-closed) former Thorn lamp factory on Melton Road in Leicester.
The replacement Iridium is of the 'large' (SGS 254) variety. A SON lamp (probably 150 Watt) is fitted.
A Philips MA 90 was fitted to the following outgoing column - this would have replaced an Alpha 1 in the early 1990s.
This lantern's bowl is secured with four clips. Later versions of this lantern saw the inclusion of a fifth clip at the front of the lantern, in order to increase the overall IP rating inside the lantern. The lantern's internal cable clamp does not appear to have been used.
A Thorn Alpha 4 was next - again, this would have replaced an Alpha 1 at some point.
Notice the distinctive flat front to the Alpha 4.
The illuminated signs warning of the mini roundabout at the Wood Road and Morley Road junction were also awaiting replacement. The sign plates had already been transferred to the new posts (fitted with Simmonsigns LUA sign lights), but the power supplies had still to be transferred; proven by the operating Forest City LA428 sign light in the right-hand picture.
Another MA 90 overlooked the roundabout. This column was newer, and may have been installed when the mini roundabout was constructed.
Travelling back up Chaddesden Lane now, we return to seeing older columns.
The Iridium's optic looks slightly too large for this wattage of lamp:
The 90 Watt lamp inside the MA 90 also did not fill the bowl - this is because the body shell for this lantern is shared with that of the remotely-geared MA 50 135 Watt SOX version. The unused lamp space inside the MA 90 does not go to waste - it is where the control gear is situated.
Looking back towards the roundabout again:
