The following photographs were taken on Saturday, 30th October 2010:
GEC Z9538 lanterns made up the majority of the outgoing lanterns installed on this road.
The above records suggest that the next two installations were opposite (foreground) and outside (background) a school. A quick investigation reveals that the eponymous school was demolished in 1987; a car park now stands on the site. Clearly, the records hadn't been updated for some time, even in 1997!
A couple of holes have been drilled in this Z9538's bowl, in order to assist with water drainage.
Both the new and old columns are of a 6 m nominal height.
After approximately thirty years' service, the Z9538 canopies looked very weathered.
The new column was still awaiting commissioning when these photographs were taken.
Travelling around the corner, the outgoing and replacement columns here straddled a large tree.
The new column was located in a better position than its outgoing equivalent was.
A 1980s' Thorn Beta 2 followed. This column is likely to have once supported a Z9538 as well.
The NEMA socket on the earlier Beta 2s is slightly more offset than it is on later examples.
The next installation saw a return to Z9538 illumination.
Whereas the old lanterns required an outreach bracket for spreading their light output across the full length of the carriageway, the new lanterns do not.
A rather grubby bowl was fitted to this Z9538.
The final new column on this road was installed opposite its outgoing equivalent (not visible here).
