The following photographs were taken on Friday, 24th December 2010.
A 5 m tubular steel column, installed in the mid-2000s (and partially installed within a hedge!) and fitted with a Thorn Beta 5 lantern, was the first column planned for removal on this road.
The following column, a Sleeved Stanton 7 concrete, also supported a Beta 5. The column's very rusty door was secured using a "Tamtorque" band.
A GE SOX lamp was fitted in the Beta 5. The condition of the lamp's arc tube suggests that it was about due for replacement anyway.
The useful output of this Philips MI 26 must have been severely compromised when the adjacent tree was in full leaf!
Wisely, the new column is positioned away from the tree.
