The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 24th October 2010:
A remotely-geared Simplex Aries was first from Bishops Drive. Prior to the commencement of the PFI, this section of Bishops Drive was also lit with Aries, albeit the 55 Watt version. I believe this part of Oakwood is therefore newer (by only a few years) than the majority of the suburb is.
The wires for the Zodion SS55 photocell detector are visible inside the lantern:
The replacement Iridium houses the lamp control gear within the lantern housing.
A second Aries was installed on a bend in the road. The right-hand photograph compares the overall heights of the old and new columns.
A new column was installed on the adjacent footpath. This is an entirely new column position - no lighting existed here prior to the relighting scheme. Notice the different optic in this Iridium in comparison to the optic of the Iridium seen above.
Overhead telecommunication cables criss-crossed in the vicinity of the next new and old installations:
The autumn sun shining on the Aries bowl revealed a number of cobwebs.
A GEC Z5698U provided illumination on the narrow section adjacent Mansfield Road. Curiously, the Z5698U was installed on an Abacus base-hinged column, even though a maintenance vehicle would be able to access this column without too much hassle.
A close-up of the new Iridium allows the lamp focusing positions to be seen. I suspect that this type of reflector is of the 'open' type, as some cable offcuts are visible in the bowl.
A second Z5698U was installed at the end of this section of road (more of a shared driveway to adjacent properties). Again, a base-hinged column had been used as a support for the lantern. The new column is of a regular (non-hinged) type.
