The following photographs were taken on the 4th April 2010 - Easter Sunday.
The columns being removed here all supported GEC Z5698U lanterns.
The lampholder in the second lantern appeared to have worked loose from its fixing bracket, which caused the lamp to hang lower within the lantern than normal.
The next lantern along was in an altogether better condition than the previous example was:
Notice the 'SL' abbreviation sprayed on the adjacent carriageway; this shows the column installation teams where to place the new columns:

I had previously photographed the lantern on the footpath to Bowland Close in 2007, when the photocell had developed a fault that caused the lantern to dayburn.
