Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract
Primrose Close, Oakwood
Three columns existed on this road; this is the inventory record from 1997:
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
1 | 100670 | 1ST FROM FOXGLOVE | SXPL2 | 35 | |
2 | 100671 | ADJ 6 | SXPL2 | 35 | |
3 | 100672 | OS NO 8 | SXPL2 | 35 |
The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 10th October 2010. Two of the outgoing lanterns installed along here consisted of Thorn Beta 5 lanterns dating from the late 1980s or early 1990s.
The first column from Foxglove Drive featured a shallow-bowled Beta 5.
The second column didn't even have a bracket fitted, let alone a lantern - it appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. The door was buckled and had been secured with four cable ties. The lack of a bracket revealed the reasonably short length of the column.
The hairline crack that is visible in the footway was not caused by the impact of the column being struck; it existed before this occurred.
The (undamaged!) replacement column was installed a short distance further up the road.
The third outgoing column was installed in part of the turning circle at the end of the road, although it was set back somewhat. The replacement column was installed in a more useful position.
The replacement lantern already looked rather worn - the bowl and chassis were noticeably scratched.
